CBI, a Detroit-based Cyber Security Services company, is pleased to announce and welcome Peter Schawacker as Senior Vice President of Implementation Services. He will be responsible for the leadership of the company’s cybersecurity technology implementation services.
Prior to coming to CBI, Peter was on the staff of Deloitte’s Risk and Financial Advisory practice, was the head of Optiv’s SIEM professional services practice, and is a well-known figure in the cybersecurity industry. His long and varied IT career began at EarthLink in the mid-1990’s. After being a first-hand witness to the Internet revolution, he worked for Citi’s first SOC (Security Operations Center). From there, Peter worked in pre-sales and evangelism roles for Internet Security Systems (ISS), NFR, McAfee, and Tenable.
“Peter brings a lifetime of services experience to CBI. He will hit the ground running to help CBI strengthen our offerings across all facets of implementation excellence,” stated Steve Barone, CEO of CBI. “Peter knows that the unique needs of the client always come first and that can mean tremendous efforts on our end to meet hard deadlines and expectations. Additionally, he understands the how to navigate the complex paths of the vendor community. He is a huge addition to our team!”
In addition to his business background, Peter has deep technical expertise in SIEM, intrusion analysis and vulnerability management. At Citi, he implemented the company’s first vulnerability management program, scanning more than 200,000 nodes. In order to cope with an explosion in security data, he undertook the ground-up development of a rudimentary SIEM.
At NFR, Peter worked under Marcus Ranum and was a special adviser on network intrusion detection technology for Qualcomm and First Data. At McAfee, Peter was a key member of the integration teams for the acquisitions of IntruVert (later IntruShield) and FoundStone. Then, his career took him to Tenable, where Peter worked with Ron Gula, Renaud Deraison and (for the second time) Marcus Ranum. There, Peter architected large scale implementations of vulnerability and log management technologies for F1000 clients.
Peter has a proven track record of disruptive innovation and being able to predict IT and cybersecurity trends. His views and opinions on cybersecurity strategy are sought after by business leaders, investors, cybersecurity industry analysts and clients across all industries. An autodidact, Peter holds a wide variety of technical and business certifications, such as the CISSP, CISM, A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+, MCSE (NT4.0 era), PMP, CSM and Project+.
